Winter Clinic Success Leaves Players Asking For More!
|
Winter Clinics Wrapped Up-Spring Clinics Starting Soon!
The resounding success of the LMSC Winter Clinics which left players asking for more soccer fun can only be answered by the offering of Spring Clinics. Registration for the spring sessions is now open and will continue through March 1, 2011. To learn more about the Spring Clinics, please click here.
LMSC would like to thank the over 400 kids who participated in and supported the LMSC 2011 Winter Clinics; once again the clinics were a huge success. During the weekends in January and February, players overtook the Bentley HS soccer field with LMSC professional coaches, college players and LMSC veterans. These soccer sessions gave many players and families new to LMSC, an opportunity to see our coaching staff in action. Players enjoyed learning fun and challenging soccer maneuvers while coaches seized all teachable moments.
At this venue, LMSC was pleased to introduce so many new players to our upcoming Open Development Program (DPO). Registration for the DPO program is open now and will continue into May 2011. To learn more about the DPO program, click here.
Special thanks to our parent volunteers and LMSC staff members without whose efforts the clinics would not be possible.

LMSC U18 Girls Juventus Tournament Champion, Third Place Pleasanton Rage Tournament, and Semi-Finalists at Davis Cup! |
U18 Champions!/div>
Coach Heath and Coach Mohamed with U18 Girls Juventus Champions
The United girls played in three highly competitive tournaments: the Davis Legacy Cup; the Pleasanton Rage College Showcase and the Juventus Tournament of Champions. The games in Davis were played in near 100-degree weather, but the girls played their opponents tough, rising to the semi-finals. Next was the Pleasanton Rage College Showcase, which was teeming with college coaches from around the country. The United girls challenged some of the toughest teams in the west, proving that they can take on an incredibly tough opponent...and win! And then, there are those "fluky" games - the supposedly "easy wins" that somehow sneak up in a most unfortunate way. A team that the United girls should have easily beaten caught them at a moment of being off-kilter. A goal by the opponent in the last 2-minutes landed the United in third place, which is respectable, but they were going for first!
Redemption was just around the corner. At the Juventus Tournament of Champions, the United girls trounced each opponent with scores like, 4-0 and 5-0. Not only were the United girls keeping their opponents scoreless, the United girls connected aggressively with the goal over and over again. Quickly advancing to the finals, the United girls met an opponent that made them redefine the phrase, "play hard." The other team was composed of college-level players including the Goalie from St. Mary's and players who had just signed with Stanford and Santa Clara. The game was indeed a battle, but the United girls held their own. Falling behind in the first half, the United girls came back with a vengeance and tied the match 2-2. When the whistle was blown, the girls knew that they had to win in overtime, or PK's would be the last resort. The action started again, and within minutes of the start of overtime play, the United girls hammered in a goal to win the championship by a score of 3-2.
Winning the Juventus tournament was a great way to end the summer, and prepare for the upcoming league games. The gold-flighted Lamorinda United U18 Girls are a talented force to be reckoned with. Kudos's to them all for a job well done! |

LMSC U11 Boys Finalists in Diablo FC Summer Challenge Tournament!
|
Coach Jasko and LMSC U11 Boys Finalists at Diablo FC Tournaments with Coach Tony
The U11 Boys Lamorinda Soccer team participated in the Diablo FC Summer Challenge Tournament the weekend of August 21st and 22nd. The boys began their 2010 season by executing skilled passes, outstanding ball handling and great teamwork. After winning their first three games, the boys fought hard in the championship game, where they were narrowly defeated 3 to 2. The team truly put on an offensive show throughout the tournament, scoring 20 goals in the 3 games leading up to the finals.
This is the third year the core of this team has been together in the LMSC program, and Coach Jascko credits their emerging success to the players' high work rate, the commitment of the majority of players to showing up day in and day out to practice, the addition of new players committed to soccer excellence, and the passion and seriousness with which the boys approach mastering the fundamentals of the game. Coach Jasko states, "The drive of the boys to improve technically, their energy in practice and the competitive nature in each individual brings out the best in all of them. They are a great group to coach for that reason and because they have great team spirit and all like each other very much."
Coach Jasko is proud of his boys, who are not only playing at a high level for their own team, but often attend U12 practices to log extra playing hours and also assisted the U12 team at several tournaments this summer when they were short of players. The U11 boys should be proud of their performance and get psyched for a great year! |

U13 1A Girls Finalists in Placer Prestige Cup! |
U13 Lamorinda United 96
The incredible performance of Lamorinda United 96 at the Placer Prestige Cup tournament Oct 24 & 25th brings to mind the popular children's story "The Little Engine that Could." You would think that upon hearing that their goalie had injured her finger right before the first game of the tournament, the players might have lost heart and given up before they started. Not so with this courageous group. One of the team's forwards stepped up to the plate, and supported by her team, played goalie amazingly. With three injured players on the bench, each team member supercharged her effort to prevail. Believing in themselves and their ability to play excellent soccer no matter what the adversity, the team pulled together with the superb guidance of Coach Pedro Osorio, and secured a spot in the championship game. Although the outcome of that game did not fall in Lamorinda's favor, the amazing talent and perseverance of the girls is what elevated this team to champion status. Hooray for Lamorinda United 96, the team that could (and can and will continue to)! |

U11 1A Boys Take 2nd Place in Norcal State Cup in Sacramento in December, 2009
The U11 Boys began the State Cup quarterfinals matched against their league rivals, Heritage Blackhawks, whom they had tied in the last two regular season meetings. The team was down 1-0 at half, and tied the score 1-1 early in the second. With ten minutes left, the LMSC boys scored the go ahead goal and added one more for insurance, winning 3-1. The next day in the semi-finals, the boys went up 1-0 in the first half and never looked back. Outstanding defensive and goalie play locked in the win and held the opponents from Sonoma scoreless. The Championship Game in Sacramento was a nail-biter and heart-breaker that was scoreless after 60 minutes. The game went into double overtime, and moments before the game was about to go to penalty kicks, the other team scored. LMSC offense, defense and goalie played an amazing game against a worthy and well matched opponent from Monterey. Congratulations to Coach Lorens and the U11 boys for their hard work and stellar performance this season in league and State Cup play! |

U11 1A Girls Take 1st Place in Norcal State Cup in Woodland in December, 2009!
The U11 Girls opened the State Cup Quarterfinals against a strong San Ramon Blue Pride team and showed off LMSC's signature possession soccer. Both teams played well, and the game was tied 1-1 until the last minutes of the 2nd half when the teams's offense came through and scored a goal to win 2-1. In the Semi-final game, LMSC took the lead 1-0 in the first half, and defense and goalie played a brilliant game against the Merced team. In the second half, LMSC scored again to seal a 2-0 shutout. The girls team played in the State Cup championships against the Montclair Firecrackers in Woodland on Saturday, Decmber 19th. 10 minutes into the game, with more than four LMSC girls touching the ball to pull Montclair's goalie out, an assist and a shot led to the first LMSC goal to put them ahead 1-0. LMSC U8 Play Day vs. Tri-Valley Club

To maximize touches on the ball, the games are 4 vs. 4.
