U7 DPO Team Orange Pose After Play Day

The new, LMSC Open Development Program (DPO) is underway, and Technical Director, Mohamed, “Mo’, Mohamed, and DPO Technical Assistant, Evan Sassano, couldn’t be more pleased with the players’ hard work and tremendous progress.  In just 6 short weeks, the younger groups of 5-8 year olds are starting to lay down the tracks for ball handling and movement, as well as participating in the small-sided scrimmages with increased passion and skill every time they play.

The older groups of 9-12 year olds are not only picking up foundational techniques and displaying a higher comfort level with the ball, but they are also exhibiting a rapid rate of improvement with collective soccer. The LMSC coaches report that the older teams have consistently elevated their level of individual and team play each week, and the players seem engaged with the game and excited with the results.

TD Mo states, “It’s been inspiring to see players, from our youngest 5 year olds to our oldest 12 years olds, come into this first year of the DPO program and practice and play soccer each week with a commitment to learning the fundamentals.  I hope families can see the difference that our training system, which emphasizes technique and multiple touches on the ball, makes to their player’s skill level and enjoyment of the game.”

DPO TA and Coach Sassano observes, "The kids should be proud of their progress. Over the last couple months, I am seeing players who started with the idea just to kick the ball and run, now developing the ability to meaningfully dribble, direct the ball, and come up with their own creative playing ideas." TD Mo adds, "The DPO boys and girls are doing a terrific job in this beginning phase of soccer development, and LMSC looks forward to training these kids each year as they embark on the longer journey of bringing out the best that soccer has to offer."

Congratulations to all the DPO players, parent-coaches, and families. Thank you for being a part of this exciting, new program!

U13 Girls in Action Against Pleasanton Rage
U13 Girls in Action Against Pleasanton Rage

The Lamorinda United U13 Girls are healthier and picking up steam as they head towards the end of the year.  Currently, the team is on a six-game undefeated streak that began with a 1 to 1 tie against The Pleasanton Rage.   The team then posted a victory against Alameda Bay Oaks, with an excellent 2-0 performance followed by a huge match against arch rival, first place Walnut Creek who rolled into Lafayette undefeated in league play.  Lamorinda’s defense was stifling in game that ended in a 1-1 tie.  The team followed up with another 1 to 1 tie with Union City.
In the final games of 2011 the United took charge. The much anticipated rematch against Walnut Creek was a wild, offensive affair, particularly in the first half with Lamorinda going ahead 2-0, only to fall behind 3-2 and then tie it up 3-3 just before the half ended.  The second half was filled with near misses until a final minute foul in the goalie box gave Lamorinda a penalty kick.  The kick was converted, securing a thrilling 4-3 victory for the LMSC U13 Girls.  In the 2011 finale at The Santa Rosa Rampage, the Lamorinda offense took care of business early, putting up a two goal lead, but it was the defense that shone in this match.  Lamorinda nearly shutout the Rampage and ultimately won the State Cup match 3 to 1 to end 2011 on a roll.  Congratulations to the Lamorinda U13 Girls and Tony Neto on a terrific end to 2011!

It Was a Great Weekend at the LMSC Hot August Jamboree!

Hot August Jamboree

The 2011 LMSC "Hot-August" Jamboree located at Stanley Middle School in Lafayette was a huge success! The weather was perfect for the "Hot-August" Jamboree. All players did an amazing job and worked hard under the blazing sun. The Jamboree was comprised of U9 and U10 girls and boys teams from all over the Bay Area. Out of the 38 teams that participated, 10 Lamorinda teams displayed great possession soccer, good sportsmanship, and disciplined leadership. Lamorinda coaches included Billal Samy, Francis Lopez, Stefan Clemens, Rouzbeh Pelijani, Haris Obic, Beto Zambrano, Fab Amezaga, Tony Neto, and Caroline Scofield. In addition to fair play and positive coaching, over 15 new Lamorinda referee's were able to oversee multiple games and gain experience for the upcoming Fall season. The ref's helped the entire play run smoothly and made the players feel comfortable in their game skills.

Thank you to LMSC U9 parent, Max Truax, for coordinating the entire Jamboree operation, to Stefan Clemens for overseeing the event on behalf of the club, and to all the rest of the LMSC parent volunteers who also worked hard to ensure a successful weekend. Thank you to Mark Weyland and Joe Petite for maning the Referee table and to the U16 Girls team for supplying delicious food and treats to the players, friends, and families. LMSC appreciates and thanks all participants and teams from the greater bay area for joining the 2011 LMSC Jamboree and showing your support for our soccer club.

LaMorinda United '94 (L.M.S.C) received red carpet treatment compliments of Puma as a reward for winning the U.S.A. Cup in Blaine, Minnesota. Puma sponsored the international soccer tournament which included teams from XX countries, earlier in the summer. As champions, the girls were treated to an all expenses paid trip to Rochester, New York to watch the Women's Professional Championship (W.P.S) soccer match between the Philadelphia Independence and the Western New York Flash.
LaMorinda braved the weather conditions brought on by Hurricane Irene, and caught a red eye flight back East to nearby Buffalo. First day highlights included watching training sessions, practicing with the coaches and players, and a shopping spree at a Puma retail store. On game day, the LaMorinda squad escorted players from the Philadelphia Independence onto the field for the pre-game festivities. Once the contest began, United sat in a luxury box and met with U.S World Cup hero, Abby Wambach.
After the match the girls had an opportunity to meet the players, take pictures, sign autographs, and hear first hand about playing professional soccer. They met with World Cup players including Alex Morgan, Amy Rodriguez and Brazilian super star, Marta. Many of the players commented that the trip inspired them to continue their drive to be top competitors in soccer and life.

U16 Boys, Finalists in 2 Summer Tournaments, Finish as Mustang Tournament Champions!

The U16 Boys team has had a very full summer of Tournaments and a very successful showing as well.  To start the summer,  the team took 2nd in the Juventus Premier tournament after shutting 3 teams out to make it to the semi finals. In the finals they took 2nd after a tough battle, losing 1-0 and giving up their only goal all tournament.  After Juventus, the U16 Boys played in the Ballistic Premier tournament. They won 3games to make it to the semis, losing a heartbreaker, 1-0,  in the final seconds of double overtime of the final game.  They saved their best for last in the August Mustang Tournament, where they won two and tied one of their games to take them to the semi finals.  After beating the Mustang team in the semi finals, they went on to win the Championship game 2-1 against CV Arsenal  Coach Pedro Osorio has done a great job training and preparing this combined team of U15 and U16 players to work together and bond as a unit. The boys have an amazing chemistry and their strengths and abilities on the field are a pleasure to watch. Congratulations to the U16 Boys team and Coach Pedro as you look ahead to continued success and development during the fall season!

LMSC U11 Navy Boys at Mustang Stampede Tournament

The U11 Navy boy's finished the summer season on an upward trend! Under the guidance of Coaches Stefan Clemens and Evan Sassano, the U11 Navy boy's team displayed good possession soccer, composure and desire to get better. The U11 Navy boys participated in two summer tournaments. While recording an even 1-1-1 in their first summer tournament - Santa Cruz Breakers, they were still in contention for the final four. Unfortunately, the math didn't go their way. Rather than relying on math, the boys made their own destiny in the Mustang Stampede tournament. With a 2-1-0 record, they solidified their spot in the semi-finals. Unfortunately, the team encountered their first loss, but gained experience and never quit. Congratulations U11 Boys and coaches on a summer of soccer growth and character building!

Lamorinda United 95 Girls with Coach Pedro Osario Win the Mustang Stampede Tournament!

Congratulations to the Lamorinda United '95 U16 girls – they finished their summer soccer season in style by winning the Mustang Stampede on August 8th!

Competing in the U16 Gold flight, Lamorinda defeated the San Juan Spirits 96 3-0, FC Elk Grove 96G Navy 3-0, and DOS FC 95 (Washington) 1-0 to advance to the semifinals. The girls then outscored De Anza Force 95G Silver 4-1 in the semifinals to move on to the championship match. Playing their 5th and most important match in three days, the team was up against an equally talented Burlingame Blitz 95G team.

As expected, the championship match between the two evenly matched teams was tight. Lamorinda got on the scoreboard first and led 1-0 going into halftime. Burlingame countered with an equalizing goal midway through the second half to even the score 1-1. Lamorinda responded on the next ball possession to go up 2-1, and then proceeded to score two more insurance goals to claim the championship.

Fall U13 Girls Simmer in Summer Tournaments

Fall U13 Girls with Tony Neto.

Winning a championship in the NorCal Premier Spring League raised expectations for a talented U12 team that is now the Fall U13 Girls Lamorinda United squad. With expectations, sometimes come disappointments, but the team was still able to make strides and improve during Summer tournament play. While they were unable to garner a tourney championship, there were many bright spots and successes on which they can hang their cleats. The squad broke even in both, the stifling 100 degree plus conditions in Modesto, and the North versus South tourney in SLO, with a win, a loss and a tie. Easily their best performance was at The Pleasanton College Showcase in July, where they came within one goal of playing in the Finals. They rebounded from a tough loss to win the Third Place game and came home with medals from this very challenging and competitive tournament sponsored by The Pleasanton Rage.

Overall, the team played winning soccer over the Summer with a cumulative record of 5-3-2, and outscored their opponents 20 goals to just 11. In doing that, they showed the flashes of brilliance that helped guide them to the Spring championship, and hopefully become more consistent in the Fall during State Cup play. Defense continues to be the hallmark of the team, as they were able to hold teams to an average of just over one goal allowed per game with outstanding 4 shutouts over 10 games.

Two teams - Lamorinda United '94 (Fall) U17 Girls and Lamorinda United '95 (Fall) U16 Girls – went undefeated to become tournament champions of their respective brackets and age groups.

The Plesasanton Rage College Showcase, held on July 22-24 in Pleasanton, is one of the top showcase events in California for girls aspiring to play soccer at the collegiate level. The event draws about 100 college coaches and scouts from universities across the region and 200 top U15 to U19 girls teams from across California, Arizona, Oregon, Washington, Nevada, and Utah. Teams are organized into various brackets and play four games against teams in their bracket.

The Lamorinda Soccer Club (LMSC) entered two teams at this year's event. The Lamorinda United '94 U17 Girls defeated all four opponents (FC Portland 94G Navy, Valley United, Wolfpack SC Blue, and Beach FC G94 Soler), recording three shutouts and outscoring them 15 to 3 in the process, to become the champions in the U17 Super-1 bracket. The Lamorinda United '95 U16 Girls champions in the U15 Gold bracket of this event last year, won all four matches (vs. Greater Renton FC 95 Blue, South Bay Force, South Valley Strikers G95, and Legends FC 95 Black) while outscoring opponents 16 to 3 to become the champions in the U16 Super – 1 bracket.

Lamorinda U12 Girls Spring Out of the Gate Impressively!

The Lamorinda Soccer Club United 98-U12 Girls came in first place among a talented group of teams in the Norcal Premier Spring Soccer League. They were able to accomplish this feat with an impressive 6-1-2 record that gave them a 1 point advantage over The Pleasanton Rage. Three characteristics of the team that allowed them to excel were stingy defense, ball control in the midfield and a balanced scoring attack. From a defensive standpoint the club allowed an average of less than 1 goal per game and was able to put together an incredible 4 shutouts out of the 9 game season. In terms of time of possession, the U-12 girls dominated with a near 60% that can be attributed to Coach Neto's focus on ball control and team passing. Offensively, the 14 goals scored were distributed to 8 different players displaying a well-balanced attack. The league championship was secured in a thrilling 2 to 1 win over Castro Valley United Green 98-99 who entered the contest in first place. Coach Neto and the team will try to build on their early success at Summer tournaments in Pleasanton on July 30 and 31 and San Luis Obispo on August 13 and 14, before entering into what will surely be a competitive and challenging Fall season as the new LMSC U13 girls team.

U13 Lamorinda Girls Gold Team Plays in State Cup Final
U13 Girls Gold Team State Cup Finalist

The U13 girls had an outstanding State Cup this year, scoring numerous goals while allowing very few on their way to the finals in Woodland. With two decisive wins in State Cup quarter and semi finals 6-0, and 5-1 respectively, the U-13 girls cruised into the final game of  State Cup against Sonoma County Alliance. The Lamorinda girls fought hard but ultimately fell to Sonoma 3-4 in a tight but physical game. Congratulations to the team and Coach Joey for wrapping up the fall season with a great State Cup run!

Wrapping up their 2010 season, the U11 Girls White team, a truly “United” bunch, gave the entire season their all.  They finished up their State Cup run in December with the same dedication and hard work they showed all fall.  They are looking forward to 2011 winter clinics and their first time competing in spring league come March.  The club is excited to see the players move forward into their U12 season.  Congratulations, U11 girls, on wrapping up your 2010 season with great effort and heart for the game!

The Lamorinda Soccer Club (LMSC) girls’ United 95 team have won the Golden State Soccer League Under 15 Silver division.  Building on a successful summer tournament season, the team went undefeated during the ten game Fall 2010 league season -winning nine games and tying one (9-1-0).  Employing a possession style soccer play, the team’s high powered offense scored a league-leading 43 goals while the stingy shutdown defense surrendered a league-best 9 goals.   With only a brief break for the high school soccer season, the girls will be preparing for the State Cup championship tournament in March 2011.

Lamorinda United 94 clinched the Golden State Soccer League title for the fall 2010 U16 Gold division by beating the Mustang Blast 1-0 on a rainy Sunday at Bentley High School. The Mustang was awarded a penalty kick, when a wet ball took a funny bounce and hit a Lamorinda player's hand in the box. The PK was blocked by goalie Sophie Leksan and cleared by the defense. Later in the second half, the Mustang goalie took down Megan Turner on a near breakaway. The free kick was take by Katie Tao from about 22 yards, she kicked it hard and high off  the bottom of the cross bar above the goalie's reach into the net. Great team play and defense kept the game close between these top 2 teams in California.

U15 Boys Win the September HK Shootout in Fremont!

The U15 FC 95 Boys' team enjoyed an undefeated run through the HK Shootout in Fremont September 25th and 26th, capturing First Place with a 2-0 win over Mustang United 95 in their final game.  FC 95 started the weekend's pool play with a hard-fought victory over host Mission Valley United followed by a well executed 4-0 win over Bay Oaks Arsenal where FC 95's possession game was at it's best.  A spirited 2-1 victory over South San Jose Elite SC in game 3 with FC 95 scoring the only goals that South San Jose conceded all weekend, combined with a stingy defense and sterling keeper play, proved to be the key contest of the weekend.  This set up the final contest against Mustang United, where the exhausted team needed a win or a tie to claim the First Place trophy.  FC 95 controlled the game with a goal in each half while the team's two net-minders tallied their second clean sheet of the weekend.  Congratulations to the team and Coach Pedro Osario!
